WSA Winnipeg is very proud to announce that forward Moses Danto has signed a professional contract with Arizona United SC of the USL.
“I am beyond excited and happy to have the opportunity to be able to play in the USL and call myself a pro,” Danto said.
“The USL is definitely a step towards achieving the ultimate goal whether it’s MLS or Europe and now that it’s happening it feels so surreal.”
Danto was one of three members of WSA Winnipeg to attend a trial with Arizona and has also worked out with Sporting Kansas City of Major League Soccer this summer.
The 22-year-old striker has spent his entire career to this point with WSA and is the club’s all-time leading goal scorer. He is a 3-time PDL all-conference player and finished this past season as a member of the PDL team of the week.
“Moses has every right to be proud for being selected as a result of his hard work, soccer skills, and game intelligence,” said WSA Winnipeg head coach Eduardo Badescu.
“This is why we do what we do at WSA while winning is important it is even more important to provide opportunities for our players.”
Danto is the second player from Winnipeg’s PDL team to sign a professional contract after Tyson Farago (FC Edmonton) in 2014. Several others including Dylan Carreiro (formerly Queens Park Rangers) and Desiree Scott (Canadian women’s national team) have also played in the WSA system.
Playing in the PDL helped in a big way in my development as a player and having that kind of opportunity in your backyard is a privilege,” Danto said.
“PDL and WSA academy is by far the highest level of soccer we have in Winnipeg and a great step towards evolving game, getting exposure and getting a taste of what it takes to become a professional athlete.”
Based in Peoria, Arizona, Arizona United SC is coached by former Canadian National Team head coach Frank Yallop, with former national team player Marc Bircham serving as an assistant.
“I would like to thank the WSA Winnipeg organization including the 3 amazing coaches Eduardo(Badescu), William(Rosales) and Constantin (Ignat) for helping me progress as a player and as a person since I was nine years old,”
Moses and WSA Winnipeg would also like to thank Rob Gale, who helped to arrange this fantastic opportunity of our players.
